Kylie and Eliane met in an unusual way: On a bus in Manila, the Philippines, in 2017. Both from Sydney, they realised they had complementary skill sets. Eliane’s extensive background in social research and advisory services matched with Kylie’s years of working client-side in marketing, media, and research. The two quickly bonded over a few glasses of rosé and a shared love for unusual conversations.

Since then, The Curious Co team has expanded to include other researchers with the same passions. We all have a knack for speaking to anyone across any culture, life stage, or demographic group and applying what we learn to a range of business contexts. 

Together, we’ve supported dozens of clients across financial services, technology, not-for-profit, aged care, and disability services to make business decisions from clear, human insights.

Our reach is global, having conducted research with people not just in Australia and New Zealand, but in the US, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, India, and Japan.

Eliane Miles

Founder + Director

Interested, inspired, energetic, and outcomes-driven. Always ready to deep dive to understand context. Guilty of reading too much before choosing a way forward. Loves her french earl grey paired with a shortbread biscuit.

Eliane is a social researcher and strategist with more than fifteen years of leadership experience and analysis experience.

She has helped some of the world’s largest brands gain insights for growth, engage more deeply with customers and build brand credibility.

Known for her strong analytical capability matched with deep intuition, clients love her energy, synthesis, and knack for saying it straight, sensitively.

Since 2016 Eliane has delivered over 100 keynotes, strategy sessions, and executive workshops across multiple continents. A regular media commentator, Eliane has featured on ABC The Drum, 9News, SBS, and 7News as well as on radio, print and in online media.

Eliane’s mission is to create clarity from complexity, share the story in the data, and lead organisations towards active, confident decision-making.

She is a full member of the Australian Market & Social Research Society and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Kylie McCaig

Senior Strategist + Researcher

 A committed, collaborative and a results-driven advisor. Kylie has an immense eye for detail and deep business knowledge. An antipasto platter paired with rosé is her go-to!

Kylie is a highly experienced marketing and research executive. She is passionate about helping organisations communicate authentically and connect deeply with consumers to change opinions and behaviours, enhance perceptions, and maximise value.

An MBA-educated advisor with 25+ years business experience spanning investment banking, media, advertising and financial services, Kylie has expertise in research, strategy, marketing, sales, advertising, and financial management.

She is committed, structured, collaborative and results driven. Her expertise spans delivering complex projects and working with teams across multiple geographies. She is effective in establishing strong stakeholder relationships and getting things done.

Kylie is customer focused and data led.  She’s a connector of people and patterns, driven by curiosity and a desire to understand why people behave the way they do, how they react to communication messages and just what it is that might make them change their behaviour.

Kirsten Brewer

Senior Researcher - Qualitative

An enthusiastic, experienced qualitative researcher with extensive experience in local government and in the agency space. Kirsten is not a fan of tea or coffee but likes her occasional hot chocolate.

Kirsten is a leader in social and demographic research with a specialisation in qualitative research. Her research career is led by a passion for research and insights being transformed into practical action. Kirsten led the research team at McCrindle, was a Senior Researcher at City of Parramatta and now works with Curious Co clients to better understand their customer.

We undertake the research. We moderate conversations, speak to interviewees, engage individuals in ideation, and tease out every nuance to answer what we don’t know.

Things you didn't know about us

Eliane and Kylie both started organising data from an early age. For Eliane, it involved arranging her closet by rainbow colours. For Kylie, her meticulous travel planning.

When Eliane moved to Sydney from regional Canada in 2007, she had no idea that her awkward habit of grilling strangers at parties could turn into a fulfilling career.

Our team are all avid travellers. Eliane has lived on three continents and visited 18 countries, while Kylie has visited a whopping 37 different countries.

In previous roles, we have overseen marketing or research efforts for media, advertising, local government, financial services, and not-for-profit organisations.
